Ukraine reached final stage of WTO accession

Ukraine has reached the final stage of accession process to the World Trade Organization, WTO Director General Pascal Lamy said during the European Policy Center breakfast with journalists and diplomats in Brussels on Tuesday, “Cabinet press office” reported.

According to him, Ukraine has done much in the legal field, but there are still issues beyond the parliament's competence, meaning that the adopted laws must take real effect.

As he said, he is expecting a meeting with Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, which must be held within the framework of the World Economic Forum in Davos on January 27.

The WTO Director General is interested in the Ukrainian Premier's vision and understanding of the process of Ukraine's joining the WTO. Arranging positions can approach Ukraine to membership in the WTO.

Pascal Lamy said he possesses no information about any likelihood of synchronization of Ukraine's and Russia's accession to the WTO.
