Germany returned Nazi debt to Ukrainians

German Federal Fund “Memory, responsibility and future” has finished payment of 881.5 mln euros of compensation to Ukrainian Nazi victims. Chairman of the Fund Michael Jansen told Tuesday at a briefing.

According to him, the payment started in June of 2001 and finished in December 2006. 468 thousand of rightful claimants received the payment.

“Individual payments in Ukraine are finished. In future we will plan only joint humanitarian projects,” Jansen noted.

German Ambassador to Ukraine Reingard Schefers noted that finishing of the compensation program means reconciliation of Germany and Eastern European countries and development of Ukrainian-German relations.
