VR deputy offers to revise Ukraine’s history

VR deputy offers to revise Ukraine’s history

People deputy of Ukraine, member of Party of Regions faction Vadym Kolesnichenko initiates holding a number of actions on revision of Ukraine’s history textbooks. The actions will be held in Kyiv in February and March, he told a Crimean TV channel.

Kolesnichenko said that on his initiative this issue will be considered on an open session of the parliamentary committee on education in February. The deputy plans to invite teachers of history from Sevastopol and to organize a meeting between teachers from Crimea and Kyiv.

Kolesnikov also noted that All-Ukrainian debate of history teachers under the direction of vice PM Dmytro Tabachnyk will be held in February-March. “Teacher must assemble and decide whether they are going to continue deceiving people or finally to teach real history, which will unite our country,” he said.

According to Kolesnichenko, “history issue is a funny thing, because the Great Patriotic War has been turned into a war between UPA warriors and Hitlerite occupant, and such cities-heroes as Sevastopol, Odesa, Kerch are not even mentioned in history textbooks.”

The deputy told that when they started to investigate this case it turned out that professors and academicians, who had different opinion, were dismissed from commissions, which are responsible for writing down and approving history textbooks. Kolesnichenko added that “these commissions are being reconsidered now to find out how such books appeared in our schools.”
