At the beginning of February famous Russian director
Vladimir Bortko is starting shooting screen version of Nikolay Gogol’s novel “Taras
Bulba.”
As the director told in an interview to Gazeta
po-Kievsky, on February 1 a shooting group will arrive in Zaporizhzhya hoping
for snow to shoot punishment of Andrey, which took place in winter according to
Gogol. The shooting will be continued in Saint Petersburg and Poland.
National artist of Ukraine, art director of Franko’s national
academic drama theater Bohdan Stupka will play the leading role.
In response to the question what he thinks about the
idea to shoot Gerard Depardieu in the role of Taras Bulba, Bortko said: “It
seems strange to me. What does it have to do with French? Foreigners may screen
whatever they want, but this is ours. If we have Stupka, what for do we need
Depardieu?”
Gerard Depardieu, who repeatedly visited Ukraine during
last years, declared earlier his plans to play the leading role in
Ukrainian-French screen version of “Taras Bulba”.
