Ukraine's President discussed deported nations issue with OSCE High Commissioner

Victor Yushchenko has met with Rolf Ekeus, OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities to talk
about how to help national minorities integrate into Ukraine’s society and meet their educational needs, President's press office reported.

The President said he focused much of his attention on developing cooperation with the OSCE and its offices, particularly with the high commissioner on national minorities.

“The government spares no effort to fulfill all the obligations it has assumed as an OSCE member, especially in the area of the protection of national minority rights,” he said.

Mr. Yushchenko added that Ukraine also tried to ensure the observance of the rights of ethnic Ukrainians living in the OSCE member states.

Mr. Ekeus commended the Ukrainian government for protecting minority rights and promised to support our efforts and make sure that Ukrainian communities living abroad enjoy their rights to the full.

Mr. Yushchenko and Mr. Ekeus also discussed new projects Ukraine and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe could start.
