Ukraine does not recognize Transdniestrian referendum as legal

Ukraine excludes sending of its observers to the referendum on status of unrecognized Transdniestrian Moldovan republic, press office of Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry reported.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine, special representative of Ukraine on Transdniester regulation affairs Andriy Veselovsky declares that Ukraine, as Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe with the European Union, does not recognize results of the referendum as legal.

“Ukraine’s position concerning Transdniester remains immutable. We stand for peaceful regulation of the conflict preserving sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova, observance of customs regime in force, securing of rights and freedoms of citizens,” Veselovsky stated.

On July 10 Supreme Council of Transdniester decided to hold a referendum on September 17. The bulletin includes two questions:

-          international recognition of Transdniester with its further joining Russia;

-          rejection of independence of Transdniester and its joining Moldova.
