Prime Minister of
Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych met Monday with the Ambassador
Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Ukraine
William B. Taylor, Cabinet's press office reported. In the beginning of the meeting William B. Taylor handed
Viktor Yanukovych a greeting letter from US President
George W. Bush in connection with Yanukovych’s
appointment as Prime Minister of Ukraine.
The negotiations dealt
with the social and economic situation in Ukraine and ways of solving the
existing problems. The sides discussed the situation concerning Russian and
Turkmen gas supply to Ukraine
and provision of guaranteed transit of energy carriers to Europe.
Yanukovych emphasized that this issue would be
discussed in the nearest future during his visits to Moscow,
Brussels and Washington.
During the meeting
Viktor Yanukovych and William B. Taylor also
discussed the prospects of the Eurointegration
processes in Ukraine
and establishment of closer and efficient collaboration with the European and Euro-Atlantic institutions.
Viktor Yanukovych stressed
that he supports the Government’s inheritance and therefore there would be no
considerable changes in the development strategy of our State.
The sides also pinned
their hopes on further steps of the new Government of Ukraine and leadership of
the United States of America
aimed at intensifying Ukrainian-American relations.
