The First Lady of Ukraine meets Mike Leavitt


Kateryna Yushchenko met with Mike Leavitt, U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services.

She thanked him and the U.S. government for supporting health care and medical education in Ukraine and helping our country fight HIV/AIDS, TB, bird flu and tackle the aftereffects of the Chornobyl disaster.

Mrs. Yushchenko and Mr. Leavitt discussed projects implemented by Ukraine 3000 and supported by NGOs and governmental agencies of the United States. The First Lady then spoke about the most important project of her foundation to build a medical center in Kyiv, the president press office informed.

The President’s wife said all these projects were only the beginning of long-term partnership and cooperation between Ukraine and the United States in the area of health care.

Ukraine’s Health Minister Yuri Polyachenko, representatives of the U.S. Office of Health and Human Services and other medical institutions of America attended the meeting.

Mr. Leavitt and Yuri Polyachenko signed a cooperation agreement.
