President wants to see Ukraine in EU and NATO

In an interview with Lithuania’s television, Victor Yushchenko has claimed that he hoped to bring Ukraine closer to the EU and NATO during his presidency, President's press office reported.

“I would be greatly honored to fulfill this ambition,” he said, adding that Ukraine’s EU and NATO membership was also one of the big challenges facing the country’s political elite. “Today, there is no better and greater challenge for our elite.”

Yushchenko also said Ukraine would probably be invited to join a NATO membership plan at this year’s NATO summit in Riga.
