Russian language became the regional in Sevastopol

Sevastopol City Council declared the Russian language to be the regional language requiring to protected and developed. The decision has been adopted by the majority of the votes.

The administrative body recommends the state institutions, local authorities, enterprises and organizations of any patterns of ownership to use Russian in the territory of Sevastopol City.

It also decided to provide for proper translation of the names in Russian in parallel with the names in Ukrainian - the official language of the country.

The Council has submitted a proposal to the City State Administration concerning the need to analysis of conditions of functioning for the Russian language and problems of teaching and studying which the educational institutions might face.

The decision will have taken effect after the publication in Sevastopolskiye Izvestiya.
