Ukraine may apply sanctions against the EU

Ukraine may apply sanctions against the European goods in case the EU will introduce 27-28% duty on Ukraine’s seamless pipes export in the EU, Ukraine’s Economy Minister Yatsenyuk told. He also added that Ukraine is ready to work in accordance with the EU regulations within the antidumping investigation.

“We do not claim zero antidumping duty… But 28 per cents are not acceptable for Ukraine,” said he coming out at the meeting with the domestic producers’ associations. Such duties almost close the European market for Ukraine’s pipe export. He called it a kind of discrimination.

Regarding this measure, Ukraine may use corresponding sanctions against European import as well. According to the data, European goods import exceeded Ukrainian ones by $3 bln in 2005.

As a reminder, the antidumping investigation on Ukraine’s seamless pipes was launched on March 31, 2005. The investigation was brought by the European producers’ complaint. The European Commission intends to introduce the restrictions on Ukraine’s seamless pipes export from May 1 – June 30, 2006. The Cabinet of Ukraine repeatedly stated about governmental support and protection of the interests of domestic producers.
