More than four thousand parents in Ukraine were deprived of parental rights

In 2005 more than four thousand parents were deprived of parental rights, as reported Yuri Pavlenko Minister for Family and Sport during today’s press conference in Kyiv.

According to him, “about four thousand children were withdrawn from unfavourable families.” Pavlenko noted that first of all it concerns cases of use of violence in a family.

At the same time he pointed out that the priority task of his department is to save families.

“We can’t talk about creation of procedure of deprivation of parental rights. Our task is to keep as many children as possible in their native families,” said the Minister. According to him, one of the tasks of his department is to help problem families.

Pavlenko noted that in accordance with President’s decree local authorities must trace and prevent cases when both parents do not have a job. Pavlenko pointed out that social service registered more than 40 thousands families of this kind all over Ukraine. “Our task is to save a child, but to save a family for him as well,” said the Minister.
