President Yushchenko spoke with Javier Solana

Javier Solana, High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy and Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union, telephoned Victor Yushchenko to discuss a diverse range of issues, presidential press office informed.

First, the sides discussed Ukraine’s political situation before this year’s March elections. The President assured Solana that his government had created favorable conditions for fair and transparent elections.

Then they spoke about Ukrainian-Russian relations and Ukraine’s integration into the European Union. The Secretary-General also wanted to learn about measures adopted by our veterinary services to stop the spread of bird flu.
