Hungary is worried over gas conflict between Ukraine and Russia

Hungary appealed to the European Commission with a request to become a mediator in gas conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

As declared Gábor Diósi, State Secretary of Hungary, Economy Ministry had sent a corresponding inquiry to the address of Andris Piebalgs, Energy European Commissioner.

80% of consumable gas in Hungary is imported from Russia via territory of Ukraine. The government of the country declares about sufficient gas reserve in any case.

However, official Budapest notes that the gas conflict between Moscow and Kyiv is of importance for the whole Europe, UNIAN informed.

December 29 government of the USA made an appeal to compromise between Russia and Ukraine. According to Adam Ereli, Deputy Spokesman of US Department of State, Washington keeps in touch with the leaders of both countries. Though it a matter of bilateral relations, the question of energy supply is extremely important, and Europe, as well as US, watches the situation development closely.
