Ukraine and Russia to solve gas problem


Victor Yushchenko stressed that a Ukrainian delegation headed by Energy Minister Ivan Plachkov had gone to the Russian Federation with a few propositions to build Ukrainian-Russian relations in the gas sector. The sides have ideas to solve all problems to benefit the two countries.

“Ukraine is ready to pay for gas on the market basis, but after a gradual transition period,” Yushchenko said, adding that he hoped for a “counter-move from Russia.”

The Head of State called on all to avoid political speculations and groundless allegations about possible delays in the transit of Russian gas to European markets.

“Ukraine guarantees to transit gas and these guarantees are unconditional,” he stressed, the President's press office reported.
