In an interview with reporters in Kyiv, Victor Yushchenko said all problems of Russian gas supplies would be solved by the end of this year. He also underlined that he would control this issue personally.
The President urged all not to speak about possible failures to transit Russian gas through Ukraine. He reiterated that five years ago Ukraine had signed a transit document.
“By this document we certify that Ukraine is fully responsible for the transit of gas to Europe,” he stressed.
“I would ask not to dispute over a possibility of obstacles in the gas transit or its failure. Such question simply doesn’t exist,” declared the President, ForUm's correspondent informed.
The Head of State added that the problem had been partly caused by such inefficient mechanisms of cooperation in the gas sector as barter and fixed prices.
“In addition to that, there is a difficult debt procedure, and Ukraine surprisingly agreed to pay all debts in five years, and many other things,” he said, the President's press office reported.
