Russian Prime Minister to visit Ukraine

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov will be on an official visit to Ukraine November 23, the Russian foreign ministry said Tuesday, RIA Novosty reported.

Fradkov is expected to discuss measures to develop closer cooperation in the fuel and energy industries based on market principles and modern realities on world oil and gas markets, the foreign ministry said.

Both parties are planning to hold an inaugural meeting of the committee for economic cooperation within the inter-state bilateral commission to coordinate work in this area, the foreign ministry said.

The parties will also discuss the formation of a common market, coordinated measures for WTO accession and the development of bilateral trade relations.

Bilateral trade amounted to almost $15 billion in the first nine months of 2005, up 24% from the same period last year.

The prime ministers of Russia and Ukraine will also focus on cooperation in the aircraft-manufacturing and transportation sectors and closer relations between the business communities of both countries.

Both parties are also planning to exchange opinions on the settlement of the Azov-Kerch problem regarding the status of that inter-border water area and the expansion of the contractual and legal base for the Russian Black Sea Fleet's stay in Ukraine.

"The parties will also traditionally discuss closer cooperation in the humanitarian spheres," the foreign ministry said.
