After the meeting Victor Yushchenko and President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev signed a two-year action plan and a joint resolution, President's press office reported.
At a press conference Victor Yushchenko said our
countries applied similar approaches to bilateral relations and international
policy.
“Our talks have been easy and productive,” he stressed.
Commenting on the signed action plan, the Head of State said it stipulated
five directions of cooperation. He added that these “are fields in which
business and states can greatly succeed.” Yushchenko and Nazarbayev particularly
discussed economic cooperation to start joint projects in aviation, high
technologies, and space exploration.
“I am pleased to say we have already sold seven Ukrainian AN-148 aircrafts to
Kazakhstan,” he said.
Yushchenko described our cooperation in the oil and gas sector as “very
promising.” He said the two countries had reached mutual understanding to unify
their tariffs and to form an integral transit territory.
The President of Ukraine said he was convinced that the signed documents would
help considerably increase our commodity turnover in 2-3 years. He informed
those present that it had already reached 1 billion dollars, while Ukraine
annually exported goods worth 700 million dollars to Kazakhstan.
Yushchenko expressed his gratitude to the Kazakh president for supporting 500
thousand Ukrainians living in Kazakhstan.
“We are proud that all key problems of the Ukrainian community in Kazakhstan
are being solved. It is very important to reach mutual understanding between our
nations,” he said.
The Head of State also announced that 2006 would be declared the Year of
Kazakhstan in Ukraine.
“I think this will be the year to implement specific projects,” he
opined.
