Ukraine approaches Russia to lift sweet import duty

The negotiations between Russia and Ukraine have lasted over a week, Ukraine’s Ministry of Economy informs. The issue of dragging discussion is the import duty on Ukrainian confectionary.

Official Moscow claims to lift the sweet duty in exchange on Ukraine’s withdrawal of the statement “On temporary exception of sugar and sugar syrups form the free trade regime with Georgia and Russian Federation.”

Ukraine’s economic experts estimate the chance of lifting as fifty-fifty.

As a reminder, Ukraine’s Economy Ministry delegation went to Moscow in order to settle the agreement about additional documents for Ukraine. Ukrainian Confectionery Association along with the State Foodstuff Department have initiated the abolition of the sweet import duty.
