Ukrainian journalists go on hunger strike


Today twelve journalists working “Narodnoe Slovo” (People’s Word) Kirovograd newspaper have announced the beginning of the hunger strike as a protest against termination of the financing and reorganization of the edition.

Valery Myatovich the editor-in-chief of the newspaper reported that Kirovograd Regional State Administration and Regional Council owed UAH 140,000 for publication of information about the activity of the state bodies by the editorship of the newspaper.

“Narodnoe slovo editorship owed to the printing-house and paper suppliers, we had to dismiss four workers in order to save funds,” mentioned Myatovich.
