Ukraine is second in terms of airplane accidents out of all the CIS


Last year the number of airplane accidents in CIS countries, which signed the civil aviation agreement, rose 2.8 times, from 5 to 14 incidents. Ukraine is second in terms of airplane accidents out of all the CIS countries.

Last year the number of airplane accidents in CIS countries, which signed the civil aviation agreement, rose 2.8 times, from 5 to 14 incidents.

Last year there had been 6 airplane crashes in Russia, 2 in the Ukraine, and 1 each in the countries of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kyrgizia, Moldavia, and Uzbekistan, according to "Lenta.ru".

Moreover, during this period, in the agreement member countries, there had been 33 airplane crashes, as opposed to 18 incidents in 2003.

According to the data from the Intergovernmental Aviation Committee (IAC), in 2004 there were 108 airplane crash casualties in CIS countries, as opposed to 106 in 2003.

As a reminder, the IAC was approved by an intergovernmental agreement concerning civil aviation and the use of air space.  The member states of the agreement include Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgizia, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Ukraine.
